Good word from my awesome hubby! :)

What a weekend!
Boy what a weekend! Our girls had softball games Friday and Saturday. We lost both games, unfortunately. The real excitement came last night when the storms came thru and we had an old, mostly dead, very large tree struck by lightning! The lightning caught the tree on fire and we had to call the fire dept to put it out. Plus it knocked out our tv/internet equipment, a computer and a stereo! I must say it was a bit nerve-wracking but I am also awed at the thought of what could have happened! G-d was definitely watching over us as the tree is only 30-40 feet away from the house and only 20 feet or so away from a large propane tank! It could have been a disaster but G-d was and is in control and kept us safe!
The girls and I have our work cut out for us this week, getting things sorted and settled. We still have a lot of stuff just sitting around, needing to be put up. I want to get things organized and get us back on track with our home, schooling and spiritual trains. :)
PLUS we need to get our garden in!! My goodness, time is flying! We bought a few things and put them in containers, so at least we have a few things going....peppers, tomatoes, herbs. But I have a lot more to put in. I am biting at the bit to try out a few things.....3 sisters gardening and square foot gardening. Just so much to do and not enough time in the day! :) Guess I need to become an EARLY riser!
On that note....good night!!

Watch It Online - Urban Danger
Watch It Online - Urban Danger
A very interesting documentary. It's a bit long and gets monotonous, but a lot of good ideas/info for living off the grid or being self sufficient.

Check out this video, made by my husband, to give an idea of what it is we are trying to accomplish.
Vacation Day 1!
My husband is on vacation! :) Nothing I love more than him being home. :) I am serious, there is no sarcasm intended. I really really love my husband being home. And while I do want him to relax this week, I still have lots of stuff for him to do around the house.
We are still not done moving from the old house, so there is that. A family member is giving us the border from their old garden, which is great. It's landscape timbers, stacked 3 high. It's going to go towards the creation of a couple of raised beds, and I really need to get it in gear to get my gardens going. The border of their old garden was about 25 x 25 or so. I think I can make at least two good sized raised beds out of it. Now just to convince my darlingest husband, whom I love so very much, to go over there and get them. :) SWEEETHEART!!!!! ;)
Today we are going down to Monticello to pick up a few goats. I am a little excited about them. :) They are mini nubians and are supposed to be really good milkers. :)
So that's it for now.....stay tuned!

New beginnings
So, it's been a while since I blogged. I guess I just stay so busy I never get a chance to. Or I forget. But I digress......
So we have moved to a new house. Well, it's really and OLD house, but it's new for us. It's an old (100 years +) farm house and it's more in the country. So quiet and peaceful. A little more property than we had too. Good neighbors.
We are getting ready to do our spring gardens. Yes, that is plural....we will be doing more than one garden space. The open garden will be a 3 sisters set up. If you are not familiar with 3 sisters, please take a moment and google it. It is an indian legend and way of complimentary planting. The 3 sisters are corn, beans and squash. We will be doing a sweet corn, some kind of pole bean and maybe a small pumpkin, cucumbers and zucchini.

Our other spaces will be raised beds. Those will contain tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, some greans/lettuces, more beans, and a variety of herbs and other veggies.
We are getting lots of eggs and the animals seem to be doing great with the move. All of the chickens are in one pen right now, but we plan to eventually split them off into their individual pens. We are also getting a couple of sheep soon and we are looking forward to learning how to care for them and what we can do with the wool. We also plan on learning what to do to properly slaughter them, in accordance with biblical requirements.
Becoming more self sufficient and less reliant on grocery stores and processed foods is our goal. Teaching others how to do this is also a goal.
G-d bless you and thank you for reading.
